BSc Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical engineering program at Imperial College provides a foundation for professional engineering careers in private and government industries. Mechanical engineers are employed in a wide range of industries, such as manufacturing, transportation, energy, food, biomedical and others. In general, mechanical engineers are involved with the design, research, development, manufacture, testing, distribution, support, maintenance and recycling of devices and products. Automobiles, airplanes, home appliances, robots, rockets, space capsules, printers and computer hard disk drives are some of the various products that have been customarily designed and developed by skilled mechanical engineers. Mechanical engineers possess a strong and firm understanding of natural sciences, mathematics and engineering concepts needed to carry out these complex tasks which are so important to modern societies all over the globe. The graduate curriculum is designed by the Higher Education Commission to provide a specialized education for career advancement or further work towards Master and doctoral degrees in the various fields of Engineering. Mechanical engineers are engaged in researching, developing, designing, manufacturing, and testing mechanical devices like tools, engines, power machines, production systems etc. They work on developing both power-producing as well as power using machines. Mechanical engineers can also be involved in designing tools and equipment that other engineers require for their work. These days, the field of nanotechnology (which involves the creation of high-performance materials and components by integrating atoms and molecules) has introduced completely new principles to the design process. Mechanical engineers are assisted by computers and by performing accurate and efficient computations and by completing the modeling and simulation of new designs as well as facilitating changes to existing designs. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) are used for design data processing and for converting mere designs into goods and products. Mechanical engineers work on energy systems, automotive design, manufacturing processes, materials testing and selection, plants engineering and maintenance, pressure vessels and piping, heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning systems in various industries. Mechanical engineers may either be hired in manufacturing operations in production or agriculture, maintenance, or technical sales, or can be involved in administrative and managerial tasks.

Admission Criteria

B.Sc. Engineering Programs: The candidate meeting one of the following criteria are eligible to apply for admission:

  • F.Sc (Pre Engineering) with at least 60% marks or equivalent education as per Pakistan Engineering Council.
  • Diploma from recognized institute with at least 60 % marks (only for a limited numbers).
