Overview

The Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in English Linguistics is a postgraduate research-oriented degree that delves deeply into the scientific study of language. It is designed for students who have a foundational background in English studies and wish to specialize in linguistic theory, language structure, analysis, and applied linguistics.

The program equips students with advanced knowledge of key areas such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, discourse analysis, and language acquisition. Emphasis is placed on both theoretical frameworks and empirical research methods, preparing students to critically examine how language functions in various social, cultural, and cognitive contexts.

Students in the program engage in independent research projects, often culminating in a thesis, which contributes to the academic discourse in the field of linguistics. The program also provides training in data collection and analysis, academic writing, and presentation skills, all of which are essential for scholarly and professional development.
